In any standard organization the Chief Executive Officer plays the role of an interface between the intervening layers viz. the Board of Directors and the multi-tier organizational structure. Just like any computer requires the presence of a Operating system to start off, become functional and harness the present resources to the hilt.

The Board of Directors, being the apex body of decision making formulates an overall strategy for the organization keeping both short term and long term targets within the vicinity of the well laid out deadlines in mind. It is the CEO who actually masterminds the entire process and it is on his stable and deserving shoulders that the responsibility of the organization’s remaining functional depends.

The CEO has to translate the goals and objectives keeping the entire pack focussed and in proper mental shape to implement his decisions. He is the key person responisble for percolating the decisions/ plans through out the organisations through a top down approach.

Generally the decisions taken at the top most level is transmitted to various levels by organizing meetings, seminars, informal and formal talks etc.

As the Chief Executive he needs to communicate the thoughts, perceptions, and ideas being projected by the organization as a whole through to the apex body by way of an bottom up approach.

To sum up the CEO is the core nucleus around which the Board orbits and looks up to. Hence the average belief in the protocol that the CEO is under the umbrella and mercy of the Board takes a beating in today’s world as he himself is the Superman, the hero who wades the organization through thick and thin.

Alas! as darkness prevails directly beneath a glowing lamp his success is not determined by himself, rather mostly depends upon the acceptance of the consumers at large whoose moods swing like a pendulum?
